Everything to Know About the Shops of Ports of Call
The Shops of Ports of Call are a must see for all of those visiting Turks and Caicos. It offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and stores in a nautical pirate themed setting — ideal backdrops for family photos. The Shops were originally operated separately from the hotel but combined into the resort operation when purchased by the present owners in 2011. As a result the resort was able to market that it had all the amenities of much larger resorts.
The Shops of Ports of Call plaza was one of the island’s first shopping facilities and carries a lot of history and significance with the locals. At the time of the purchase, half the store space was vacant. The new owners refurbished the plaza, installed the pirate statues and historical signs with the desire to make the space a tourist destination that would benefit not only the tenants and guests of the resort but the TCI economy as a whole. The improvements gave a fresh look to the exterior and grounds. We’re talking bright Caribbean colors, lush tropical gardens, pirate statues with historical messages about the island, and a wall mural of a Turks and Caicos map, all popular photo ops.
An added bonus to guests of Ports of Call Resort is that an exclusive discount is provided at a majority of these shops and services (more details later in this post). Additional special offers from some of these stores are given to guests in their welcome package upon arrival.
Over the past eight years, there has been very little turn over of tenants. In fact, a majority of the original businesses still exist which is one of the many reasons Ports of Call Resort guests feel like the property is their home away from home. Whether it’s servers at the restaurants, staff at the Dive Provo dive shop, Marie from Caribbean Beach’n or Mama from Mama’s Gift Shop, returning guests are often recognized and welcomed back home. Below you will find a list of all the current stores operating in the plaza with a short description to what they’re all about. Please don’t hesitate to comment or get in touch with any questions!
