Travel Advisory Update for Turks and Caicos – It’s Safe to Visit!
Ports of Call Resort Owner Addresses Misconceptions Surrounding U.S. State Department Travel Advisory Update for Turks and Caicos
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos – March 19, 2025 – In light of recent media attention surrounding the U.S. State Department’s Travel Advisory Update for Turks and Caicos, Dale Papke, owner of Ports of Call Resort in Providenciales Turks and Caicos would like to provide clarity and reassurance to travelers regarding the safety and appeal of the destination.
Contrary to recent speculation, the U.S. State Department’s Travel Advisory for Turks and Caicos has remained at Level 2 since July 2023. This same level advisory is held by more than 60 countries around the world including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Denmark, just to name a few.
The only update to the advisory for Turks and Caicos was a reminder about checking luggage for firearms or ammunition before leaving the United States. This precaution follows isolated incidents in recent years where American tourists were impacted due to inadvertently traveling with some bullets in their luggage. Like the United States, the Turks and Caicos’ Government enforces strict regulations regarding firearm possession and importation.
When speaking with Fox News, travel safety expert Kevin Coffey confirmed he has traveled to our destination and felt safe. For anyone interested in visiting the island, Papke recommends speaking to someone who has recently visited or reading on-line reviews to verify how safe the destination is.
Regarding crime, the Ports of Call Resort owner admits it is a concern, however, most incidents occur in remote residential sections of the island, far from the tourist areas. These situations, while unfortunate, are not unique to Turks and Caicos and occur in communities worldwide. Papke says, “While there are a few crime issues in the tourist zones annually, these small numbers should in no way influence anyone’s plans to visit the island. Every day and night, hundreds of visitors walk the streets without concern enjoying the shops, bars and restaurants. We continue to encourage our guests to explore the island while always keeping basic street-smart precautions in mind. Visitors staying in the Grace Bay area can continue to expect the same high level of safety and hospitality that has made this region a favorite among travelers. Our guests love the consistent warm weather, the worlds #1 beach, the incredible clear water and the renowned culinary experience”.
Despite the travel advisory update for Turks and Caicos, the destination continues to experience record-breaking tourism, solidifying its position as one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean. Papke questions the reports that island tourism has slowed, and feels that if so, it is likely a reflection of the economy and political turmoil in North America rather than any concerns over crime.
Ports of Call Resort takes pride in our excellent safety record with, never experiencing any crime-related incidents onsite. Our property is secured with a nighttime security guard who patrols the grounds, ensuring all exits (except the front entrance) are locked after 10 p.m. Additionally, we have cameras and staff at the front desk 24/7 to monitor who enters the property.
“Ports of Call Resort and the other hotels on the island remain committed to ensuring a secure, relaxing, and unforgettable vacation experience for guests. We urge the media to visit the island before they pass judgement”, says Papke. As well, he hopes North Americans will continue with their travel plans so that they can see for themselves why Turks and Caicos remains a top-tier travel destination, with world-renowned beaches, exceptional friendly service, and unparalleled natural beauty”.
